Caroline Mehetabel Sawyer

Caroline Mehetabel Fisher Sawyer (1812-1894) was an American poet, writer, and editor, born in Newton, Massachusetts, who in 1831 married the Universalist minister and educator Thomas Jefferson Sawyer. One of the most prolific contributors to Universalist denominational literature, she wrote for many periodicals, translated prose and verse from German and French, and edited the Universalist gift book The Rose of Sharon from 1849 as well as the Ladies' Repository from 1860. She died in Somerville, Massachusetts, in 1894.
