About Free Universalist

What this site is

Free Universalist gathers the statements of faith and the history of the Universalist strain of Christianity, new resources for its worship today, and LibHUT, its library of historical books. It belongs to no denomination and takes no position on church membership. “Free” means what it says: everything here is free to read, the texts are public domain or openly licensed, and the site asks nothing of you.

The site is edited by one person. Corrections, suggestions and questions are welcome at editor@freeuniversalist.org.

Privacy

This site sets no cookies. The fonts are served from this site, and no page makes a request to any third party except LibHUT’s book pages, where the page‑turning reader is loaded from the Internet Archive when you scroll to it. The only scripts are a few lines for the theme button in the masthead, which remembers your choice of light or dark in your browser’s local storage and nowhere else, and the search box on the LibHUT home page, which searches an index served from this site. Nothing is recorded about your visit beyond the ordinary server log, which is not shared.

Accessibility

The site is written to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA. In particular:

• Every page has a skip link, a heading hierarchy with no skipped levels, and landmarks for header, navigation, main content and footer.
• All text is real text. Body copy is 17 px and nothing is smaller than 13 px. Every colour used for text has a contrast ratio of at least 7:1 against its background in both light and dark modes. The page follows your operating‑system colour preference, and a button in the masthead overrides it.
• The layout works at any zoom level and down to 320 px wide without sideways scrolling. Nothing needs a mouse; focus is always visible.
• There is no motion, no autoplay and no content that flashes. With scripting off, everything still works except the theme button, which is hidden, and the LibHUT search box; the browse pages list every book.

LibHUT’s page‑turning reader is served by the Internet Archive and may not meet the same standard; every book there can also be downloaded as a PDF, and the reader carries a note saying so. If anything on this site is hard to use, please write to the editor and it will be fixed.

Licences and credits

• Texts. The Winchester Profession and the books in LibHUT are in the public domain. Site text and catalogue records are dedicated to the public domain under CC0.
• Typefaces. Headings are set in Domitian, a Palatino revival by Daniel Benjamin Miller, used under the SIL Open Font License option of its licence. Text is set in Alegreya Sans by Juan Pablo del Peral, SIL Open Font License 1.1.
• Scans. Served by the Internet Archive.
• Mark. The rainbow dove over the storm is from Christicons.

Colophon

The site is plain HTML and CSS, apart from the theme button, generated from Markdown by Zola. It was set up in the summer of 2026 and the present front pages were made on 8 September 2026. Any host that serves files will run it.
